WEED MAN TRAINING
Our employees are the backbone of the company, since we rely on them to deliver professional service to our customers. Weed Man has an ongoing employee training program: a regular schedule of seminars and information updates on plant health care and safety procedures when registered products are required. In addition to meeting/exceeding industry regulatory requirements all Weed Man Technicians must demonstrate their knowledge of plant health care, and Weed Man field safety procedures before they can wear the Weed Man uniform.

WEED MAN LICENSING
Weed Man professionals must meet all government licensing requirements. This means being thoroughly trained in agronomy and in the proper procedures for all registered control products used for the maintenance of healthy lawns. Using the IPM preventive approach recommended by governments, Weed Man professionals work with home owners to prevent problems through basic mowing, watering and fertilizing practices that will head off most serious turf grass problems. Products are applied in spot treatments ratherthan blanket treatments wherever possible. Canada has one of the most stringent regulatory systems for pesticides worldwide. The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA), a division of Health Canada registers pesticide products through the Pesticide Control Products Act. Weed Man professionals are licensed by provincial government legislation to apply federally registered control products.

For over 20 years a large part of our research has involved the testing of various organic and/or pesticide-free alternative products. The 3 most important criteria in this type of research are:

1. Maximum Efficacy: Our obsession with the highest quality and most effective products remains essential whether we are researching traditional or alternative products
2. Cost Effectiveness: There are some pesticide-free alternative products that provide satisfactory results; but at a prohibitive cost. Our choice to use any product will involve a cost-benefit analysis with our customers' needs top of mind.
3. Regulatory Considerations: Many of the alternative products being recommended are not legally registered by the Canadian government for use on residential lawns. Weed Man has always prided itself on not only meeting but exceeding all regulatory requirements. For this reason, our use of pesticide-free products is limited to those products that are legal to apply to residential lawns.

Cooling

Climate is controlled at ground level by turf grasses as they COOL temperatures appreciably, thus working as exterior "air conditioners". Eight average front lawns have the cooling effect of 70 tons of air conditioning while the average home size airconditioning unit produces only 3 to 4 tons of cooling capacity. A well-maintained lawn and landscape keeps your home cooler on hot days by reducing ground level temperatures by 30 to 40 degrees over bare soil and 50 to 70 degrees over paved surfaces like streets and driveways.

Cleaning

Properly maintained shrubs, plants and lawns are environmental heroes. Dust and smoke particles from the atmosphere are trapped by turf, which helps keep the air cleaner. Because of their filtering capability, plants prevent soil erosion, filter contaminants from rainwater, and absorb dust and soot. Groundwater is enhanced in two ways by a dense turf. A healthy 10,000-sq. ft. lawn (about the size of an average suburban lot) can absorb more than 6,000 gallons of rainwater without noticeable runoff. As overwatering is a much bigger problem than under watering, automatic irrigation systems, where possible, should be considered for the most efficient watering rates.

Sports playing surfaces are made safer when grassed with sure footing and cushioning sod that adds to the quality of play. Volleyball, badminton, croquet, bocce and other games are enjoyed by young and old on grassed areas. No other surface material feels as good on bare feet or is as good for playing games and even turning somersaults.

Grasscycling

When grass clippings are returned to the lawn after cutting, they release valuable nutrients to the lawn, and supply organic matter that improves the soil and will reduce the amount of refuge that is sent to the landfill sites.

Planting shade trees lowers attic temperatures by as much as 40 degrees, and landscaping aids in reducing air conditioning costs by up to 50 percent.
